Andorian and Vulcan Races

This is a self extracting program. Simply direct it to extract - install - in your base Space Empires IV folder. If it does not ask to over right then you may have installed it into the wrong location.

It will add the EMP files for both the Andorian's and the Vulcan's to the EMPIRES folder of the Star Trek Mod as well as add the two new race folders to the race folder in the Star Trek Mod.

Once install all you have to do is start a new game and choose EXISTING race, and pick Andorian.

You can of course tweak the EMP to your desire.

Again my computer crash had claimed another file. This will fix the Breen AI General file.

The mod is working perfectly at PBW and we have many games going using the mod.  I am even playing a game with Captain Kwok and UserX that has been played continuous for hours via PBW.  In one session we managed to get nearly 50 turns in, the second session racked up an impressive 30 more turns.
The game has progressed well and has been a lot of fun for many all of us.  For more on the game please read the Forum Discussion at Shrapnel.
Also the Forum discussion is the place to stay informed about the mod and such.  It is more real time than this web page.

I am still working on the Star Trek Mod, but as of late there have been very few bug reports.  Most of the emails that I have been receiving have been questions about one aspect or another regarding the mod.  I do have a few bugs to fix, but non are pressingly major ones.  So I have been using my little free time playing with DOGA and trying to make my own Klingon sets.  At this point I am really considering just keeping the set for private use.  There does not seem to be any interest in having an exclusive Klingon set for the mod, and frankly if people don't like them, then why include them?  I like them, and enjoy using them over the older Klingon sets that I compiled from games over three years ago.  (Say for the Dreadnought. I actually colored the mini image myself.)

NOTE: There seems to be a problem with the PBW version of the mod. For some reason it is not processing turns. I have received an email from a game host on the issue. He downloaded his player turn files and ran the turn on his PC and it ran fine. So the problem must be with the STM files on PBW.

And for the Klingons Ships, I am thinking of using them exclusively for the Star Trek Mod. I have more, but they are not as finished as these five.

I have been considering my options for the Klingons and Romulan ship sets.  I would like to make custom sets for both races, and eventually one for the Federation, but DOGA is not a very good program from making angled and rounded images.
I think I will end up replacing the Klingon and Romulan ships with images that I have made because I can control the look and feel of those ships.

Version 1.3.5 nearing release
Well now, I have some good news, and I have some really bad news. But first I need to ask a favor.

Can any one here provide me with a good looking portrait of an Orion? Right now I have just a re-colored portrait from another race and it is to be frank hideously ugly.

Now for the bad news.
Version 1.3.5 is going to muck up your save games. Now hear me out. I had to change a few of the weapon level requirements in order to even them out more. I know I know. *in my best Kirk impersonation* "It....... had..... to...... be.....done."

The good news. Well I lowered the cost of the prerequisite technology, :) and am adding tech trees for all of the major races.

Version 1.3.5 is nearly complete now.  I have added the Pirate Race trait, technology, facilities, and other data as required.  I have also added the Orion Syndicate Race.  (The Kaelon by CNC Raymond with a new race portrait will serve as the ships.)
I wish to play test this version for a day or so before releasing it.  This will be the version that I will ask Geoschmo to update to at PBW.  This version has many fixes and tweaks in it that I hope will improve single player games and add a sense of balance in multi-player games.
Nothing is perfect, and I know that there will be issues and more bugs, but for the most part, after this patch is out, I have no more interest in the mod.  I will of course update it as needed, with bug fixes and such, but I will not be working on it as hard as I have been.
Once Malfador releases the next patch for SE IV, I am sure I will need to make some minor modifications and or tweaks to the game. We will be able to use more neutral races in the mod, and the counter Intel bonus some races get will actually work.  I am very excited about this next patch from Malfador and eagerly wait it.

I missed a big bug with the Romulan and Klingons in the last patch so please update to this newest patch as it addresses the latest bug fixes and minor tweaks to the mod. The Full 1.3.2 patch will update the STM from any version from 1.2.5 to the current version 1.3.2.The update WILL cause issues with saved games. This version of the mod adds a new ship to the vehicle Size file and as a result it will throw off your ship images and designs. (Especially for the Federation) Tis an easy fix, but will require you to make updates to all of your ship designs.Please back up your current STM mod by making a copy of it and renaming it after the Version number, (Star Trek Mod 1.2.5 for example) BEFORE you update. The Mod Launcher will still launch the mod as normal.
The Data Only Patch will update your mod from version 1.3.1 to 1.3.2. The data only patch is a lot smaller than the full patch but only updates from 1.3.1 to 1.3.2.

Sorry for the lack of updates of late. I have re-uploaded the 1.2.0 Single Player patch to the Bottom of the Downloads page.I am working on a new patch, 1.2.6 that addresses the problem with the Star Trek Map, and fixes it. I have also fixed a few other reported bugs, one the Romulan Plasma Burst I - III and the Federation Ablative Armor II BMP to mention a couple.
The new patch should be ready soon.
Geo has reported that the PBW site will be going down for a period of time towards the end of the month. New Age Ship Yards is also back on line and SE.Net is hoped to be up soon as well.

Also it has been reported that the Star Trek map is not working with this version of the mod.  Most like because this version uses the newest version of the FQM mod.

God only knows how I hate to be the dumb ass who takes everything on face value.  I downloaded what I thought was the latest version of the Image mod, components part, v 1.11 and based the components for the STM off of that false information.  Turns out that the site had not been updated and tough luck, all of my work had to be redone.  IF YOU DOWN LOADED the components zip earlier today and it replaced images, guess what,?  Yup, your going to have to get the latest version of the Image mod components module v 1.16 from either Suicide Junkies site, or from Space Empires.NET and reinstall it.
I am extremely put off by this as it has damaged my reputation and caused much anguish.  All I can say is, I am sorry for the incontinence that this. my have caused.  I honestly had no idea the mod page I was getting the mod from was out dated. There were no indicators, nothing to warn me, nothing at all.  I am not at all happy about this, but life goes on.  The problem is easily fixed, and the new version of the STM Components zip is ready.

I recommend adding them to your current base Components folder as well as the mod folder.  The zip does contain the old STM images as well and will overwrite them, but make no changes to them.  I included them all to insure that the pack stays complete.
I am hard at work on the race AI's now.  Thanks to Rollo I have a good idea of what I did wrong and am working toward correcting it.
The Star Trek Mod Play by Web game will be starting soon.  Geoschmo has uploaded the 1.2.0 version of the mod to the PBW server.  Once the update is ready I will ask him to upload the  new full version.

I believe that I found the problem with the AI and why it was not colonizing when random players were selected.
The AI did not recognize the Colony Tech Adv. Trait in each random races general text file.  I swapped the around a bit, moving the adv. trait to the second position on the 5k settings in each races General txt file.  I then ran several test games and all of the AI's expanded and colonized.  This AI glitch should not be an issue, and I really don't know why it became one. Like I said, I hate this games AI. There is no guarantee that this patch will work.  I tried my best.

After some reflection I have decided to keep trying, but I will be honest, I am beginning to hate this process.
The problem is the AI will not design Colony ships if the player does not use an EMP file for that race during game set up. When I just choose one race, and set the setting to High for other races, the game will add 19 other players and non of these players including my own AI will design colony ships.  Without colony ships, the Ai will not expand.
Now if I pre-select 10 races, IE the ones with EMP files, then all of the races will expand.  25 turns  50 turns
Why this is I have no fricking clue.

I have done all that I know how to do to get the  AI to work, yet it will not work.   I have grown to utterly hate the AI in SEIV and all I really want to do is delete the entire game from my HD.
If you can make the AI better, by all means its your hair.

I have updated the full version 1.2.0 with the new settings txt as well as all of the other patches.  If you have already downloaded the patches, no worries, just download this update and extract and install it like you did the patch.  It only contains the new settings txt.

If you are new to this mod and have never downloaded it before, please download the latest FULL version.
Full Version 1.2.0.PBW of the Star Trek Mod  has been uploaded, - This version has the colony tech mod by Ed Kolis included. -  The new mod folder name will be Star Trek Mod PBW.
The purpose of the colony tech mod is to prevent the trading of colony tech in a PBW game.  Each player must choose an advanced race trait for one of the three colony types.  Taking more than one, or choosing one that does not correspond to your races Homeworld type is considered cheating.
Patch 9 PBW - Will upgrade your current version of the Star Trek Mod to 1.2.0 PBW version.  It will not rename the mod folder, and will void your current saved games.
Patch 9 SP - Will upgrade your current version of the Star Trek Mod to 1.2.0 single player version.  This version will not effect your save games. version.
Patch 1.1.5 to 1.2.0 SP This patch will upgrade the SP 1.1.5 version of the mod to 1.2.0 SP.
Patch 1.1.5 to 1.2.0 PBW  This patch will upgrade the SP 1.1.5 version of the mod to 1.2.0 PBW  - Your saved games will be voided.
Question: Oh my god, which one do I download?
Answer: Well that depends upon what you want to do.  Its easy really, if you already have the Star Trek Mod and don't care about loosing your Save game files, or any custom EMP's you've made, then simply download Patch 9 PBW. If you have saved games that you want to keep, then download Patch 9 SP.
If this is your first time downloading the Star Trek Mod, then just download the 1.2.0 PBW version.
If you want both the SP and the PBW version then simply download Patch 9 SP and install it.  Then  make a copy of your Star Trek Mod folder, rename the copy of your Star Trek Mod folder to Star Trek Mod SP.  Then download Patch 9 PBW and install it to the original mod folder. Presto, you have both versions of the mod.  This way in the future as newer version come out, you can download them into which ever Mod folder you want.

The work continues on the 1.2.0 patch for the mod.  The 1.2.0 patch will have two version, 1.2.0 PBW and 1.2.0 SP.
1.2.0 PBW (Play By Web) version will include the Ed Kolis Colony Tech Mod.  To include this mod incorporate new racial traits, technology, components, and AI files.  I also had to go through all 40 races AI files and remake all 30 EMP files.  This was a daunting task to say the least.  I am in the test phase of the process now, and all seems to be working correctly.
The SP (Single Player) version will not include the Colony Tech mod.  I did this because many people have games on going, and would not be able to continue to play them if they updated to the PBW version.
Don't worry, if you want to update to the PBW version I will also make a patch available for that purpose.

Over the last few weeks I have received many emails about the mod and I apologize for the long response times.  I will endeavor to reply to all emails in a timelier fashion in the future.
Please keep in mind that if you download just the patch, you will get many errors while playing the mod.  You must download the full version of the mod, currently 1.1.5 or update your older version to 1.1.5.
Patch 8 updates from 1.1.2 to 1.1.5.  Sometimes I include a few version in one patch to be efficient.
Installation of the mod is easy, once you have downloaded the mod, the full version, simply unzip it into your Space Empires Directory, This will create a folder named Star Trek Mod.  To apply a patch to the mod, simply unzip the patch and extract it to your Space Empires Directory just like you did the full version of the mod.  You will be asked to over write some files.  Say YES to this.  If you are not asked to over write files, then there is something wrong.  Most often it is because the Mod folder is a different name.  Be sure you Star Trek Mod folder is named Star Trek Mod
If all goes well with the 1.2.0 version of the mod, I will ask Geoschmo to upload the PBW version to the PBW server and then I will run a test game.  Currently we have eight of ten players ready to go.  But any one can run a game.  All I ask is that if you do, please let me know if you run into any bugs.  Thanks.

Shrapnel appears to be down again.  This seems to happen from time to time without warning or cause.  With any luck, it is something simple and they should have their site back up soon.
Here is the latest update on the Star Trek Mod.  I have made some good progress in getting the AI to design better ships using the race specific technology.  Additionally I was able, fingers crossed, to fix the Borg ship design bug.  I should have the next patch out sometime this week if all goes well.

I have also uploaded the latest full version of the mod, 1.1.0 to this web site.
If you installed Patch 4 please be advised that the folder name may have been incorrect.  The latest version of Patch 4 fixed this.  Hopefully the problem was caught before to many people downloaded it.
You can see if your version of the game is the latest version as of Patch 4 (1.0.9) by looking at the Modinfo.txt file.
I have to apologize about the error with   patch 4.  Some how during the process the mod name developed a spacing error.  The mod was named StarTrek Mod instead of Star Trek Mod.  Patch 5 is spelled StarTrek Mod but after installing the patch Please rename your Star Trek Mod folder to Star Trek Mod or whatever you wish. The Latest version of the mod, full 1.1.0 is correctly spaced and all future patches, if any, will be to this new format.  Again I apologize.
I have also uploaded an ALL IN ONE patch that will take the mod from version 1.0.0 to 1.1.0
